Piñata Workshop The
workshop consists in 2 segments of 2 hours each. *
The first segment will consist in: -
Explaining the cultural meaning of the piñata, and the impact in the
Spanish Colonization. How Spanish people used it to persuade natives to
the Catholicism. The piñata represents Satan, and the horns the seven
deadly sins, and the stick used to beat the piñata means the glory. -
The audience will participate in the making of their own piñata
following the next steps: 1-
Blow up balloon to give the piñata a main body. 2-
Apply 2 or 3 layers of news paper cuttings to the balloon. 3-
Attach the horns to the main body, with more layers of news paper
cuttings. 4-
Let it dry, and wait until the next class to finish. *
The second and last segment will consist in: 1-
Reviewing history and meaning of piñata and giving a hand out. 2-
Make an opening at the main body of the piñata to put candy inside if
desired. 3-
Repair the peelings and sand the surface. 4-
Paint the whole piñata with white acrylic paint like a protective coat
and let it dry. 5-
Do the decoration of the piñata using the primary acrylic colors and
colored paper.
